Some people read books for pleasure. Some for research. Some as a way of playing with children. Some a bit of all three. But many writers will read books that inspire them in their writing–whether they’re writing fanfic or not.
Big Cat likes to read Shakespeare even when he’s writing short stories because those long speeches, simultaneously so grand and intimate, remind him to keep plumbing the depths of his characters’ psyches. And Little Cat likes to read random things, almost without forethought, in the hopes that inspiration will strike.
What about you? What are your Books that Inspire? What kinds of things do you like to read when you are writing? And why? Do you prefer to read for research or inspiration? Do you prefer to read classics or contemporaries? Do you read new things or revisit favorites?
Cheers, and happy Caturday!

Description:
A Still image of two cats sitting on a cushion before a blank wall that represents the infinite possibilities of imagination. A large orange and a small grey. The grey seems upset by something, and asks the orange: “Big Cat, how do you keep from arguing with strangers on the internet?” The orange smiles down and responds: “Breath control exercises.” The little grey seems unsatisfied. He presses on: “So you… adopt a meditative disposition?” The orange smiles at the little misunderstanding and clarifies: “No, I imagine drowning them.”
