This is a forum of people.  Someone with real feelings and real experiences is on the other side of the screen. In order to participate in the 2 Rules of Writing forums you agree to do the following: 

-listen and speak respectfully-this includes respecting labels, pronouns, names, etc.  Be especially careful about phrases like “No offense, but…” or  “It’s just my opinion,…” 

-correct; don’t criticize

-try not to monopolize the conversation

-center people with experience. If someone has been through something and you haven’t, listen more than you talk; ask questions more than you make pronouncements. (A good resource for learning about allyship can be found here.)  This also means not expecting anyone to speak for all of the people who they share an identity with. 

-do your own emotional labor first. People will help but you must come prepared.

-a safe space doesn’t mean safe from challenge. You WILL encounter ideas you don’t agree with and you are WELCOME to push back.

-Help keep the space safe by using content warnings when appropriate. If you’re uncertain about whether something needs a content warning, err on the side of caution.

-abusive language will not be tolerated, obviously. Not even if it’s accompanied by “I’m just asking questions,” or “You SJWs [always/never]…”

–Don’t be a Bad Art Friend. Don’t plagiarize. Post only things you have the copyright to or that you have the permission of the creator to post.  Cite your sources, attribute your quotes.

-Keep private information private-do not post personal email addresses or other public information in public forums.  Anyone using these forums for doxxing or other harassment will be removed from the forums immediately and at the discretion of the mod team will be reported to law enforcement

-Do not delete threads if they’re not going the way you want. 

By participating in these you understand that you are participating in a community where we  all:

-Acknowledge that we have been taught misinformation about our own groups and about others

-Recognize that we must do the work to overcome our own biases as well as the historical and divisive ones that are part of our culture

-Accept responsibility for not repeating misinformation without blaming ourselves or others 

This means that even when a thread may not show us in the most flattering light, we will respect the time and the emotional labor of others and not delete threads so that others may also learn from that work.

Commercial posting/advertising-posts advertising commercial services are restricted to the Classifieds forum.  You may bump your post twice a week.  Messaging people to advertise your services is not permitted and may result in the suspension of your advertising or forum posting privileges.
