Doctor Adam Katz has over ten years’ experience tutoring young people for the SAT and other exams. As his references attest, Adam’s approach is different from most. Test prep courses tend to emphasize drills and practice, which often leads students to the following undesirable outcomes:
- Practicing bad habits, ingraining them even further.
- Leading to repeated bad scores, leading the student to feel less optimistic and less motivated.
- Time spent aggressively drilling for the SATs means less time devoted to reading, learning, and developing productive study-habits.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Our Approach Sets you up for Success and Avoids the Common Pitfalls
- We use exercises to determine where to focus. Then we teach proper techniques for answering those questions correctly. Then we use drills to strengthen the student in the use of this proper technique.
- We teach grammar and reading comprehension through reading. We assign books and stories, selected and curated based on their appeal to young audiences and their ability to teach valuable lessons in vocabulary, sentence structure, analysis, and so on.
- Fact: The more a student reads for pleasure the better prepared they are for the SAT and other educational milestones. So why don’t more test prep courses focus on reading for pleasure? Because it’s hard to sell it to parents. Parents want to see the child actively working towards a goal, and reading doesn’t seem that active. But if you trust us and our techniques, you will see your child’s scores dramatically improve.
Getting Ready for College Applications?
Writing college applications can be a challenge. A lot of students have never written a personal essay. Especially non-native English speakers and people whose parents did not attend college. The stress is so high, one common solution is to get someone else to write it for you! But colleges are savvy about catching such short-cuts.
So what if you could take a writing course that ends with you writing a beautiful and brilliant college admissions essay?
As a bonus, you’ll start to learn what’s expected of you as a writer once you go to college, putting you in a good position to pick up momentum right from the beginning.
